Choosing wedding invitations

Your wedding invitations can help set the tone for your nuptials and create a style or theme that may be carried through in everything from the decorations to the wedding photo albums.
Formal or informal?
Are you tying the knot in your own backyard or at a church? Let the formality of your ceremony be your guide when selecting invitations.
Traditionally, formal invitations have a white or ivory background and are engraved with centered type. However, you need not stick to these constraints. Contemporary couples have as many choices for invitations as they do for designing the wedding albums.
Printing styles
Traditional engraving is one of the most popular printing styles for wedding invitations, but it is also one of the most expensive because it requires a copper plate.
Many bargain-hunting couples opt for thermography instead, which can create a similar look for roughly one-third the price of engraving. Thermography mixes wet ink with a powder compound and then applies heat so the design rises off the paper.
Letterpress invitations, in which a design is pressed into paper, have been recently experiencing a revival. These invitations are often custom-made by a shop that specializes in the relief printing technique.
Offset printing is another low-cost option, while some brides and grooms opt for the hand-drawn elegance of calligraphy.
Colors
A formal wedding invitation might stick to an ivory background with black lettering, while many contemporary couples choose to incorporate their wedding colors into their invite style.
You may also consider letting the season or theme of the wedding inspire color choices – with spring/summer nuptials calling for warmer hues and cool tones suiting fall/winter events. A sunset ceremony on the beach may suggest orange or red to evoke the striking pictures in the wedding album. Meanwhile, an elegant hotel wedding may suggest deep purple or blue.
Your personal style may also influence color choices. Many people choose a light-colored background with a single shade for the design, but if you want to be bold, why not experiment with a darker background or an unusual color combination?

Beach Wedding Invitations

So, you’ve decided to get married on the beach, surrounded by crashing waves, warm sand, and blue sky. Your wedding invitations should reflect this theme, and whether you go for funand informal or elegant and sophisticated, you can incorporate your wedding colors and style into your wedding stationery.
If you’re planning a destination wedding, you should send save the date cards at least six months to one year in advance of the wedding. This will give guests ample time to make travel arrangements, and to budget for a potentially expensive trip. Etiquette dictates that your save the date cards don’t need to match your wedding colors or theme.
When you’re choosing beach wedding invitations, the style of the invites should match the tone of your ceremony and reception. If you’re having a casual brunch or afternoon cocktail party near the water, you may want to pick an informal card such as a sunglasses-shaped postcard or bright turquoise invitation. However, if your ceremony will be at sunset by candlelight, you will want to let your guests know that the setting is a little more formal. In this case, opt for a soft pastel color or small nautically-themed graphic instead. Make sure you give your guests an idea of what they should wear to the wedding, as people are often unsure about whether they should come in Bermuda shorts or a suit to your nuptials.
Beach wedding invitations should include as much information as possible about the wedding location and proceedings. Research accommodation rates for your guests, and offer a low end and high end hotel choice to fit any budget. If the resort or hotel offers tours or activities, give guests that information as well. Some couples choose not to receive gifts for a beach wedding, as guests are often traveling a long way to attend the celebration. If you don’t want to have gifts at your wedding, let your guests know by word of mouth through family before the wedding takes place. Never include gift information on your invitations, as this is considered poor taste.

Wedding Invitations: Things the Bride Should Know
Weddings are a very special time, when two people in love start their new life together. If you are planning your wedding you know there is much more to preparing than meets the eye. A bride has many tasks to take care of, the dress, the flowers, and the invitations to name a few. Wedding invitations are just as much a part of the planning process as any other task. Here are some important things to keep in mind when selecting your invitations.
Color: Wedding colors should be incorporated into the invitations. Choosing colors for a wedding can be a difficult task, but once chosen they are the colors that will be attached to the wedding ceremony, reception, flowers, dresses, everything. Continue the color choice by incorporating it right into the invitation. There is a great variety of colors available for wedding invitations, so you are sure to find a color choice that matches your wedding colors.
Theme: Wedding invitations should coincide with the theme of the wedding. Is it a spring, fall, or winter wedding? The theme of the wedding greatly depends on the time of year the wedding is held. There are some wonderful selections for spring and summer weddings that incorporate flowers and natural elements right into the invitation. For fall or winter weddings there are many varieties that include luscious fall colors, or cool icy winter themes.
Theme of invitation may also be incorporated to other aspects of the ceremony and the invitation. When ordering your invitations, try to order your programs and thank you notes at the same time. You’ll have a wonderful coordinating theme, and be done with the paper work.
RSVP: Ordering RSVP cards. RSVP should be ordered along with the invitations. All invitations have coordinating RSVP cards and envelopes that are sent right along with the invitation. RSVP cards can be very important for the reception. If the reception is being catered, the catering company needs a count for how much food and also how much it will cost. Seating at the reception can also be dependent on how many guests will be attending. An RSVP card is also important for booking lodging for guests.
Whatever theme, color, or style of invitation is chosen, there is an endless variety of selections. Guests will be delighted when they receive the beautiful wedding invitation. It is the time to start becoming excited for the upcoming event.

Perhaps you love the sun and water but not the sand. If you are getting married on a boat, choose an invitation, like the Ocean Liner wedding invitation that matches your big day.
A beach wedding provides an excellent theme for your invitations and this location is a fun place to host a wedding. For example, a Bamboo Breeze wedding invitation is reminiscent of Asia. By alluding to your location with the design, you are also setting the stage of your destination-wedding announcement.
Destination Invitations – You can also choose to theme your destination invitations around the weather you should be experiencing at your wedding. Not all wedding destinations are warm and sunny! Of course, you can get even more specific if you want and show off the exact city of your wedding with the design of your wedding invitation.
It is also popular to not be too overt with your destination wedding invitation design. Although some people like to be clear that they are getting married in the mountains or by the shore, you can also choose to pick a more traditional style of wedding invitation. Are you having a wedding in the fall forests in a mountain setting? The burnt orange, brown, and gold colors of fall are perfect for your destination invitations.
Keep in mind that you may want to send two invitations in case you decide to have a small ceremony for those who could not travel at the time of the wedding. So, when ordering your destination wedding invitations, keep in mind that you may be sending two invitations in the same envelope. You can also choose to send the invitations separately, but they should relate to one another to avoid too much confusion.
Not every couple is lucky enough to have a destination wedding. While most would agree that a beautiful paradise destination would be a nice backdrop for one of the most important days of their lives, at the same time, it is also important that all of their loved ones be present at the ceremony, which is not always possible with a destination wedding. If you do choose to have your ceremony away from home, however, consider the hot new trend of destination wedding invitations. They can help to announce you wedding plans to your guests in a fun, beautiful way.
A destination wedding can take place anywhere and your wedding invitations should reflect this location. Colors are an important aspect of the destination wedding invitation. You should choose colors that reflect the area such as light blue for a beach wedding. Another option is to include a picture of the location, as this can help prepare your guests for what they should expect upon arriving at the destination. Whichever invitations you eventually decide on for your wedding, be sure to allow your guests enough time to plan the trip.

Welcome spring with your March wedding invitations and ideas.

A March wedding can be a beautiful spring affair. The weather is still a bit chilly but your guests will know that spring is definitely in the air. March can be the perfect time to begin your lives together with a beautiful wedding. Take advantage of some pre-season discounts and avoid the rush of wedding season with a lovely March affair.
InvitationsTake advantage of the light pastel colors of the season and make a bright wedding invitation. Some patterns that look great for a March wedding invitation include cherry blossoms, pinstripe and polka dots. Think light and bright with yellow, baby blue, light pink, celadon green and lavender.
Also, if you’re sending your spring-themed wedding invitations on time, they should reach your guests around January or February (depending on when in March your wedding date is set for) – just in time to relieve your guests of the winter doldrums.
DecorationsSeasonal flowers for March include Gerbera daisies, pastel dyed roses, Chrysanthemum, Snap Dragons and Sweet Peas. Take your cues from these light colors and accent with your flowers. Choosing flowers that are in season can save you some money and give your wedding bouquet a fresh look.
Reception and menuMarch is not high-season for weddings, so don’t be afraid to ask your reception venue, florist, caterer and other vendors for off-season discounts. Wedding season doesn’t ‘technically’ start until June, so you might be able to save some money with your March nuptials.
While there is no rule about which foods to serve you might consider fresh foods and baby vegetables to pair with a light chicken or salmon dish. A crisp salad with candied nuts and fruits can add a fresh and unique touch to your menu.
For the bar, offer both red and white wines. Pick out a fruity spring-themed signature cocktail, like a lemon-drop martini or cherry limeade for our signature beverage. And if the weather is still chilly, you might want to add a fun warm beverage or coffee bar, too.
WeatherDon’t let the chilly weather deter you. You might not be able to have an outdoor ceremony just yet, so make sure you have an indoor plan. If you do plan any outdoor activities, make sure you note on your invitation about your outdoor plans so your guests can dress for the weather.
AttireAgain, the weather may dictate some of your details for you. Most likely, the chilly temperatures will keep you and your guests inside. Any day in March could be warm and then turn chilly. You might be able to sneak in a ceremony and then move inside for your reception. Additionally, plan on dressing your bridesmaids appropriately for the weather; consider a sleeved dress or a wrap to go with their dress. This will keep them warm and prepared for just about any weather situation.
March can be a beautiful time to plan your wedding. Start with a bright pastel invitation and you’ll have everyone excited for your beautiful spring affair. You might not be able to have an outdoor affair for ceremony and reception, but you will have a beautiful and unique wedding that will be long remembered.
