How many wedding receptions have you been to where the setting, food and speeches have all been fantastic and then the band starts to play and suddenly the atmosphere dies? Within half an hour everyone is chatting at the bar and the party is all but over.
On your special day you need a guarantee that not only wills this not happen at your reception but that your wedding band for hire is the one of the talking points of the day for years to come.
Your wedding day is without question one of the most important days of your life. Everything from the ceremony to the food and reception has got to be perfect. Wedding band hire is no exception, they have got to be top notch. Quite often the band you choose can be the difference between an amazing wedding and just an average one.
Deciding between loads of bands, budgets, styles of music, set lists, types of bands that are going to appeal to everyone’s tastes can be very confusing.
Here are five top tips from one of the countries leading experts in live wedding entertainment to help you make sure you get it right.
1. GET THE BUDGET RIGHT
A lot of couples start by booking the wedding dress/suits, venue, catering, flowers etc. and then allot the remaining budget to hiring a band. With all bands for wedding, it is definitely a case of you get what you pay for. If your budget is under £1000 then our advice would be quite simple; DO NOT bother having a band. Spend the money on a really good DJ or Quartet. A band that cost £600, cost that for a reason… because they are not very good.
2. ASK FOR RECOMMENDATIONS
Word of mouth recommendations from family and friends who have used a good agency or seen a good band at previous functions are always a good way of starting the whole process off. Send a block e-mail to all your family and friends for wedding party band recommendations. Just make sure you trust their musical taste and judgement! From your initial research try to whittle the bands down to a favourites list of 3-5 and then take some time to agree on one that you both like.
3. LISTEN TO THE BAND BEFORE YOU BOOK
A lot of the top bands do not play public performances but a good agency should be able to provide you with a live music sample or video. On the better web sites you can download live performances and burn them onto CD to listen to on a good stereo system. They should also be able to provide you with up to date testimonials and photos.
4. LOOK AT THE BANDS SET LIST AND STYLE OF MUSIC
Check out the bands set list to make sure that the style of music is what you are looking for. All of the top bands should be experts at getting a crowd of mixed ages on the dance floor, but some will be rock based, some funk or disco….choose one that suits your tastes. It is also a good idea to highlight songs that you really do and do not want played at the reception.
5. USE A REPUTABLE AGENCY FOR YOUR BOOKING
If you book directly with a single band it often means that you have little come back if something goes wrong or you need to find a last minute replacement. A reputable agency will have a good web site, with contracts, up to date testimonials for the band and generally put your mind at ease over all the logistics. They will have been through the process thousands of times before and know all the necessary logistical arrangements and pitfalls in arranging the music you want.

Five tips for a budget wedding
June 16, 2012 by
Article by Adam Barnes
People can easily get carried away with the budget on their wedding. Believe it or not the average Joe spends in excess of 20,000 pounds on the big day! There are so many things that need to be done that the cost can soon rise so here are a few areas where you might be able to save. Cost cutting can be cruel so be warned you might have to be firm with yourself.
The venue
Everyone’s dream is to have the wedding either in a church or in a big stately home. Sadly for the majority this is an expense too much. I know from experience that the hire of some of these venues can cost an entire budget. There is a hotel in St Albans where hire of the venue is £20,000. On discovering this, bitter disappointment may ensue, but fear not for there are many good places that just need a little love and sprucing up and they won’t break the bank. Community centres and village halls are great examples . Okay so they don’t have the grand architecture that stately homes do but they are more often than not clean, tidy and full of space. If you just open a can of creative worms on a place like a village hall then the results can be spectacular, it’s amazing what drapes and lighting can do.
The cake
The cost of a cake can run into the hundreds! I think the general consensus is that most people don’t particularly like wedding cake anyway! Admittedly they look fantastic and very impressive but there’s just no escaping they are not a favourite flavour. The problem is that because they are works of art, many man hours have gone into creating them and that is reflected in the cost. Showboating is the main thing that pushes the cost of a wedding up and the cake is a prime example of that.An alternative to expensive wedding cake is small individual cakes. The ultimate cheap way to do it is to bake and decorate them yourself. You will quite often find that most people will prefer a lighter cake, so something like a sponge should prove more popular and save feeding the bin. Presentation is key so jazz them up with decorations and icing and show them off by putting them on tiers like the real thing. These little cakes are great because they are easy to cook and can look great for just a few £’s instead of hundreds.
Stationery
Amazingly it is estimated that the stationary on average will cost £600′s! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that’s £6.00 per guest for 100 guests. That sort of money is unnecessary just for an invite.
The cheapest way would be to send an e-mail invite or e-vite. Unfortunately not everyone has access to e-mail, some of the older attendees may feel left out. In order to cater for everyone a physical invite is going to be best. The first idea that comes to mind is to send a card, but it doesn’t need to be that way.
I would suggest that you buy a some nice paper, nice envelopes and design your own fancy letter invite. Sending a card is not essential, if you make a nice job of the invitation letter and envelope then it can make just as much impact as a £6.00 card. This will take time but if you don’t mind it will look fantastic and save you a fortune.
Sprucing up the place
It is easy for the flower budget to get pushed. A professional florist can charge a great deal of money. It is an art form and so once again you’re paying for somebody’s time. The disposable nature of flowers also adds to the cost.
Flowers can be obtained from a great number of outlets now. Florists are the favourite place for wedding flowers but if you’re a little more flexible there may be more solutions. You may not have thought of the local supermarket but with a great selection and lower prices it is hard to ignore. They are never short of a great range of colours and styles but make sure you speak to the management and ensure that there will be enough for your big day. From here the rest is down to you. With just a few £100′s you can get a great amount of flowers and have plenty of money spare. The great thing about this is that the Bunches are already arranged for you so the hard part is already done.
Whom to invite
Knowing which people to invite is very tricky. You don’t want to offend anyone, but you can’t afford to invite everyone. It’s pure and simple here, you need to be harsh and not invite everyone. It is easy to end up inviting lots of people, including those who haven’t seen you for years. Restrict the invites to just those closest friends and closest family members. The whole point of this event is not to impress everyone, it is to show those that matter to you that you have found someone special, don’t forget that. A huge amount of guests doesn’t make the event any more special. In fact the more people there are, the less special those that are really special feel. Receiving an invite feels like a great privilege, is it really worth wasting that on somebody you barely see?

Five Top Tips for Organising Your Wedding Reception Music

Article by Syed Atif Ali
1. GET SPECIAL REQUESTS IN EARLY
If you have a first song request or some favourite songs you would like played on the day make sure you let the agency know as soon as possible. All good bands will accommodate requests if given enough warning. If you intend to use the bands own sound system during the speeches make sure you request that from the agency. Quite often there is a small early set-up fee for this service.
2. SAVE MONEY
If you have pushed yourselves to your budget limit for the wedding music then most bands are happy for clients to use their PA sound system to connect ipods or lap tops for the disco music at no cost. Get someone whose taste in music you trust to compile appropriate background music for during the meal and upbeat party music to be played when the band is taking a break. Alternatively most bands can also provide an upbeat play list for in between their sets and some offer a DJ option for approximately £250.
3. ASK YOUR VENUE THESE QUESTIONS EARLY ON IN YOUR PLANNING
Do they need PAT electrical certificates from the band?
Does the band need to have public liability insurance?
Do they use noise limiters? If they do and the settings are very low it is often not worth having live music.
Do they have a microphone and sound system that you can use during the speeches?
Is there a stage for the band?
What time does the wedding party music have to finish?
These issues can cause real problems if they are discovered wanting late on in your planning.
4. PASS ON IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO THE AGENCY
As soon as you can, let the agent have:
Directions to the venue,
Your days timings (band arrival times, set-up, sound check, when you want the first and second sets played, finishing deadline). Most bands charge extra for an early set-up time, so it is best to try and clear a 1½ hour period as close to 6pm as possible for the band to arrive, set up and sound check.
Any special requests.
Put the best man/usher in charge of dealing with/paying the band on the day and give the band/agent his contact details.
5. BOOK EARLY
Book the band/DJ/Quartet as early as possible. The most sought after acts usually get booked up a year in advance, especially over the busiest summer months. Generally you confirm the booking by paying a 30% deposit on the band you choose. You should then receive a contract and confirmation on the deposit payment.
Have a read of of our FAQ’s which should cover any more questions you may have.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST………ENJOY YOUR SPECIAL DAY!

Five Things to Consider When Picking Wedding Music
March 24, 2012 by
Article by Rafi Michael
Music is one of the things that can make a wedding a total success or failure. Usually, a wedding DJ plays music in nuptial ceremonies to entertain the couple getting married along with their guests. In Toronto weddings, music plays a big role in entertaining the guests and keeping the service lively. Therefore, one needs to employ much care in picking music for their Toronto wedding.
When couples choose music for their Toronto weddings, they should focus on unique music that is relevant to the occasion. This helps to break the monotony because many wedding DJs, including Mississauga DJs play the same music at different events. One should ask the wedding DJ to play their taste of music. To make it easier for the DJ, the couple can come up with a personalized play list. They can also ask their guests to request for special songs, either as dedications or purely for entertainment. This ensures that the guests are entertained the entire time. In a Toronto wedding, the event planner may also give the wedding DJ a selection of appropriate music to play.
When picking music to be played at the ceremony, the bride and groom may choose to pick songs that have sentimental attachments to them. This could be songs they heard on their first date or the first song that they danced to together. This will create an atmosphere of familiarity for both the couples and the guests who know them on a personal level.
Another factor to consider is appropriateness. The music should be appropriate. One should consider the age of the different guests who will attend the Toronto wedding. There can be the elderly, middle aged, the youth and/or children. Different age groups prefer different kinds of music. The event planner should ensure that the wedding DJ plays appropriate music that will not make the guests feel uncomfortable. Furthermore, if the ceremony is taking place in church, the wedding DJ should take care not to play event music that is inappropriate for church nuptials. The same applies for traditional nuptials. This entails the DJ being versatile regarding various types of music.
The event music should also show the love that the bride and groom share. When the bride and groom sit down to pick music for their special day, they should include songs that reflect the emotions in their relationship. The guests should be able to relate to the couple
