There can be lots of underlying questions that may confuse of whom should host a bridal shower party, who should be invited, etc. A bridal shower party, though can be an informal occasion, has certain etiquette to follow as to how it should be. Not only on how the program should go on, etiquette must be properly applied at the start, from the invitation up to the opening of the gifts.

First of all, the bride herself should not host her own bridal shower party, nor her family or relatives. It is inappropriate for them to throw a party then designate the guests of what to bring. Neither the bride and her family should demand of how the party should be or make any suggestions. This should be hosted by her friend, can be her maid of honor or her bridesmaids. The shower are thrown by people who love the bride – no planning on her part required. Appreciate and return the favor when it is her turn. If ever the kind of party they will throw for you is not your thing, The key is to have open communication. However, be gentle about it and do not go into detail of what you want or what should be done. Sure, it is not what you expected, but smile and remember that someone is taking some time and effort to throw you a party in your honor. Let them have their fun and remember anything they are doing for you is a gift so you need to be showing gratitude, not “attitude.”

Invitation is not the bride’s responsibility either. She can be consulted of whom can be invited but the invitation should be named after the hostess.

The bride shouldn’t be paying for her own shower. The host can ask for a group of her close friends to chip in and share the cost of hosting the bridal shower etiquette. This should be kept at a minimum since, most likely your guests and bridal party will be bringing gifts to the shower.

If you are host, organize with your bride to register for her shower registry. If you are the bride, you may select your registry but do not expect gifts. If you do not wish to receive gifts, you may state so in your invitation. If you are a guest, check with the host of the bridal shower to find out where is the registry of the bridal shower.

There is debate on whether opening gifts in front of gift givers is rude. Some people consider it as an integral part of the party as though it is part of the shower program. It depends on what your group of friends like to do, but more importantly, this is personal choice. Many prefer that the opening of gifts be done privately and send handwritten thank you notes thereafter. The aforementioned bridal shower etiquette are the most common issues. Remember that whether the bridal shower party you are planning for your friend is a formal or casual one, manners are of great value.

about children and wedding

Most of the romantic and ideal wedding scenes we have seen in movies involve cute and huggable children. However, being the jolly, innocent and fun creatures that they are, most often, weddings, at least in the movies, involving children turn out to be hilarious and disastrously funny.

We know that children are always seeking fun and will not stop to entertain themselves during boring hours. Children can not easily cope up and comprehend the fun adults have on weddings. The occasion can be very boring to them.

When children get bored, they usher in trouble to adults. They can roam around, throw cakes at people, fight with other kids or ruin things. These are fun to them, but can be nightmares to adults, especially to brides and grooms during weddings.

Children and invitations

Admit it. The sad reality is that more and more brides, and grooms as well, do not like the idea that children will be coming over to their weddings.

Just the thought of crying children and children messing up with her gown and that of the bride

Destination Weddings

I know a thing or two about destination weddings, as I myself got married on a beach in Sri Lanka back in 2001. Although only 8 years ago destination weddings was still in it’s infancy & the resources available to me when planning & preparing my big day where very limited. Nowadays, destination weddings are big business, with a growing number of exotic & romantic locations, themed invitations & favors & a wonderful range of designer wedding dresses, something not available to me in 2001!

If the idea of a destination wedding is your idea of wedding heaven then there are a few things you need to take into consideration.

Where can we get married? Visit your local travel agent & ask them for brochures on destination weddings. You can also research locations online, but I would advise booking through a travel agency as you may get a better price & added extras, such as a room upgrade, flight upgrades & insurance. We booked our wedding through Kuoni & obtained a room upgrade, free excursions & free meals.

What can we expect? Typically destination weddings were beach front weddings in exotic locations such as the Caribbean. Today there is a wide range of locations available, across the globe, from safari in Kenya to romantic chapels in Italy. It is worth checking out an recent list of the most popular destinations though, because its popular does not necessarily mean it would be perfect for you. Be aware of the conveyor belt effect – popular destinations at certain times of year will be full with wedding bookings & you could find your day spoiled by a quick ceremony & a queue of anxious couples waiting behind you. However, a destination wedding is a wonderful way to get married. They are typically intimate affairs, with a select guest list of close family & friends.

Most locations offer wedding packages, what can we expect for our money? Destination weddings do offer the adavantage of providing everything for you – photographer, video, local official, flowers, make up, hair stylist, reception, wedding breakfast, room upgrades – the list can be endless. This means you can simply book your wedding & not have to worry about all the extras. When you arrive at your location you will probably have to choose the finer details such as flowers, ceremony location etc. Some locations will also offer you the opportunity to get married in traditional local dress, made especially for you! Typically a wedding package will offer great value for money whilst saving you a lot of time & stress too!

Who can we take with us? Anyone you want. You will need two witnesses, although if you got it alone you could ask two hotel guests or staff to stand in! The usual etiquette is for invited guests to pay for their flights whilst you pick up the tab for accommodation, food & beverages at the wedding. Ask about group booking discounts on airfares & hotel prices.

What about the honeymoon? Destination weddings usually combine the honeymoon aswell. We got married in Sri Lanka & then flew to the Maldives a couple of days afterwards. This was a package offered by Kuoni & represented a great saving on booking two seperate holidays. You may want to stay in your chosen location longer & honeymoon there, or perhaps move to another part of the country & another hotel. Again ask about combining your wedding & honeymoon as you may make significant savings.

Is a destination wedding legal? Yes, you will be told at the time of booking about the legal requirements before you can get married. Usually you will be required to stay in your chosen location for a set number of days before you are legally eligible to marry there. You may also be required to obtain certain legal documents before you travel – we had to obtain sworn & witnessed Affidavit’s from a master of oaths before we travelled.

What do we wear? Check the temperatures & weather conditions of your chosen location – for hot climates choose loose fitting, lightweight clothing. Remember, you have to pack these garments in a suitcase, so make sure they will travel okay & that you can arrange to get them pressed at the other end.

A destination wedding is a wonderful way to get married & offers you the opportunity to have as much or as little input as you want. They are also a good option if your budget is tight as the savings are significant when compared to a traditional wedding at home.

Being Creative with Your Wedding Registry

September 19, 2012 by

Article by Cornelia O’Hara

There are some things that you will need to consider when getting a wedding registry such as the store where you will be receiving your wedding gifts, what items you would want to include on your register, and how it could be accessible to your guests. Preparing for your bridal registry will take time, but once you are done with this and the word already spread out through all your wedding guests, your next step is to just sit back and relax and see if your gifts will pile up.

Your aim is to make and register for your gifts at least six months before the wedding takes place, but if you still want it a year in advance you can also do so. Preparing for this in advance will let your guests properly select and know where you are registered and what to actually give you. You will also need to prepare options for gifts when it comes to your pre-wedding parties especially if some of your guests want to give you gifts for those parties.

When you set your wedding registry, consider the store you mostly go to or the store you mostly trust in providing quality products and have a wide range of displays to provide. There are different types of gifts so make sure that you have all the options that you need. Those who will also give you gifts should also have that option so that they can easily make their decisions easier as they search for gifts that are just on their price range. For instance, you can choose to have at least a set of twelve matching settings of china and flatware. Whether you are thinking of casual or formal, you need to think of the future and make your gift choices with different options.

You can also make your registry be divided into groups such as linens, kitchen appliances, and other gift items. Here you can put your everyday china, stemware, barware, flatware, bed sheets, curtains, appliances, and so on.

One of the most important aspects to getting a wedding registry is allowing your guests know that it ever exists. There is no point to having a wedding registry if nobody knows that it is there. Preparing them can really be exciting such as when you are finding bridesmaids jewelry set, but make sure that your friends and family spread the word about it. Do not put your wedding registry on your invitation since this can be offensive to some guests. However, your friends can also help you in being creative in making the word spread out by letting them include the information in your pre-wedding party invitations since you don’t mostly host them. If you also have a wedding website, you can also post your bridal information there.

Wedding Invitation Trends: Bold and Modern

September 11, 2012 by

Article by Kim Anderson

The hottest look in wedding invitations is fun and lively. Increasingly couples have a preference contemporary shades for their invitations to make them less stiff. Formal invitations tend to be so solemn that people simply set them aside as soon as they are acquainted with the particulars. More individual invitations are inclined to get many admiration, particularly from friends who are yet to be wed. A marriage truly is an event to celebrate and the impression of the invitation should express that.

Precisely how does a marriage invitation become more vivid and electrifying? The colors selected for the wedding invitations has a huge influence. Though it’s nonetheless suggested to design it according to the shades of the wedding party, it’s always nice to make use of vivid tones.

Ornate jewel tones are the latest fashion on the runway and the same goes for wedding ceremony invitations. There are many luscious purples, glossy emeralds, warm oranges and electric blues. Gone are the years of being restrained with light colors as a theme.

As a backdrop, whites are too boring and black might be too severe. The modern fashion as a base for the crisp jewel tones is grey. It is the perfect setting for the paper to establish balance with the rich colors. It is fresh and gives a up to date feel.

Most couples still go with simple motifs regardless of the vivacious shades chosen. Simplicity and minimalism will in no way go out of fashion. Classic lace patterns are still employed as an embellishment even for these fashionable wedding ceremony invitations.

Having simple motifs, the paper ought to have added flourishes including embossed monograms. The main paper should likewise have textures aside from the imprinted detailing as it enhances the expensive feel that many invites want to communicate. Using a monogram is still recommended but in place of the initial, it ought to consist of the entire names.

Aside from the most recent trends, a couple should always consider their own character and leanings. If there is a way to integrate their love story in the wedding invitation it follows that they should do so. Apart from the main invite, the other components of formal wedding invitation etiquette such as save the date cards, RSVP cards, set cards and menu cards should all be designed with a matching theme. These can still have differences but must be coordinated.

A final piece of advice is to browse your options and make a decision with the help of your closest friends in order to make them feel special and included.
