Winter Wedding Cake Ideas

A great way to make your wedding extra special is with a gorgeous wedding cake. The cake is much more than a dessert, it is one of the key decorative elements at the reception. These are some fantastic ideas for winter wedding cakes.

Snowflakes are one of the loveliest motifs for winter weddings. They can be used in everything from your crystal wedding jewelry to the invitations to favors. Snowflakes also look great on a wedding cake. This motif works beautifully in an icy color like white, pale blue, or silver. A simple fondant cake with ice blue frosting can be decorated with piped snowflakes in white or silver, scattered around the tiers like falling snow. Mix up the sizes and designs of the snowflakes for the best effect. A variation on this concept is to use large snowflakes spaced evenly around the cake as a graphic element. This is a terrific modern take on the classic “Winter Wonderland” wedding theme.

Speaking of the Winter Wonderland idea, you can use it as a terrific point of inspiration for a wedding cake. An all white cake is always a classic; for a formal winter wedding, it can be personalized with a heavy dusting of a shimmer powder to give it glitz and glamor. A wide silver satin ribbon can be wrapped around the base of each tier, then top it all off with a crystal monogram cake topper. The effect is elegant and modern, yet festive and not at all plain. This style of cake is gorgeous with crystal wedding jewelry, especially when done with the crystal cake topper.

If you are looking for something truly unique, ask your baker to design a winter scene on your wedding cake. Think about how incredible it would be to have a handpainted scene of horse drawn sleighs in snowy meadows or ice skaters circling each tier of your cake. You can personalize this one of a kind cake even more by representing scenes of your favorite winter activities, whether they are skating, snowshoeing, or even ice fishing. Your wedding cake will be such a work of art that it will be hard to cut into it!

A very charming idea for a winter cake would be to have one decorated with winter motifs which look as they they have been cut from red felt (minus the fuzzy texture, of course). Slightly thick pieces of red fondant can be cut into all sorts of vintagey shapes, such as pairs of mittens, old fashioned ice skates, and sleds, then placed on a white cake. The effect will be absolutely precious, perfect for a cozy and charming winter wedding.

Natural elements are always nice for wedding cakes. For a winter cake, request seasonal designs created in frosting, such as pine boughs and pinecones or graceful branches of red berries. You might just find that you like the motif so much that you use it on your wedding invitations.

There are just as many wonderful ideas for winter wedding cakes as there are for the more common summer cakes. It is simply a matter of using your creativity and featuring a theme that highlights something unique to winter. The resulting winter wedding cake will be so special that it will be almost too good to eat.

Wedding Etiquette For a Second Marriage

Article by Megan Johnson

What if your heart beats again for the second time? Scary, isn’t it? Many questions pop-up your mind especially now that he proposed marriage to you. The first question that your mind have formed was what is the wedding etiquette for a second marriage?

It is a tough question but it needs to be answered. Learning the wedding etiquette for a second marriage will help you lessen the pressure and tension that your first family (which you love so much) have unconsciously thrown at your back. You need to carry the situation like any sensible adult.

Before, it is a popular thought that second marriage should not be elaborate, extravagant and formal the way a first marriage is celebrated. But today, this belief does not hold true anymore. You can still aim for an intimate, smaller and quieter second marriage but you can also celebrate a festive one, if you prefer and your budget allows you to do so.

What is important is that your second marriage is celebrated the way you would want it to be. Don’t limit yourself and do what others expect you to do for a second marriage. Remember, it is you who will get wed and not them. Besides, you would not violate any wedding etiquette by following your heart’s desires.

Here are some information for you on wedding etiquette for a second marriage.

– Wedding Etiquette for a Second Marriage – Announcing Your Engagement

In getting wed for the second time, your major concerns will be the second marriage’s effect on your children, if you have any, and to your close relatives. If you plan to remarry, your children should know first of your decision. You must ready your children for having a new family and new brothers and sisters. Uniting two families will not be stressful for you but for your children, most especially.

The next to be informed are your parents. Of course, they need to be in your wedding and informing them is a sign of courtesy to them. Next will be your ex, especially if you have arranged joint custody for the children. He should know that there will be some changes in your household.

Also, you should wear your new engagement ring. There mustn’t have any trace of old flames on your fingers the moment you begin planning and announcing your second wedding.

– Wedding Etiquette for a Second Marriage – Dress Issue

Widow brides who are getting married for the second time are expected to wear lilac or lavender dress. But these does not hold true nowadays. Wedding etiquette for a second marriage gives bride a chance to wear white dress again. Divorced brides can also wear white dress although they could remove the veil and tiara and instead simply wear flowers on your head.

– Wedding Etiquette for a Second Marriage – Who to Invite?

When planning for your second wedding, think that you can invite any person you want to attend to your wedding. Refrain from inviting former in-laws and ex-spouses, even if you are on good terms with them. Guests may also feel awkward seeing and being around them.

If your children, however, requested that their father should be in the wedding, try to talk them out about it and tell them how awkward it would feel for the new in-laws and the new groom to see an ex-spouse around. Wedding etiquette for a second marriage does not obligate you to invite an ex-spouse to your second wedding, although you may do so if the situation warranted.

But if your new groom agrees to the idea of inviting an ex-spouse as requested by the children and your ex-spouse agreed on it, then you may invite your ex-spouse to attend your second wedding.

But there is a more sensible idea than inviting your ex-spouse to your wedding. Invite him to a dinner, perhaps at your home, with your children and new husband, if he is up to it. Tell your children that the dinner replaces the wedding invitation and your children may finally agree on not invitating their father on the wedding day. You may do this before or after your wedding or honeymoon.

Importance of wedding ring

Marriage is the most beautiful feeling, one goes through, in his life time. The pre and post preparations of the wedding rituals and customs are the traditions which are followed only once in a life time. There are few symbols, which defines the status of a person as single or married. Indian brides can be seen wearing, Sindoor, Mangalsootra, and Choora, (in some cultures), which their status being married. The first ritual observed in most of the Indian weddings, is ring ceremony, where both the bride and groom exchanges rings with each other. The differentiation of married man, from one who is single, can be done on the basis, if the guy is wearing a ring on the third finger of his left hand.

The ritual of ring ceremony is adopted from the western culture. In earlier days, ring ceremony was a practise which was observed in the Christian weddings. But today, with the travel of rituals and cultures all over the world, almost all religions in India and across the globe, practise ring ceremony to mark the eternal bond of marriage. In Christian weddings, rings are exchanged in front of the lord, to seek the blessings of the god for a successful and happy married life of the couple.

Ring is round in shape, symbolising the fact, that the relation which the husband and wife are sharing, has no ending and no starting point. Like the ends of the ring connects with each other, and no one is able to identify the either sides of the ring, same ways marriage is a bond, which ties two souls together for lifetime, with no difference in their lifestyle and thinking. Bride and groom are supposed to mix like colours in water and form a new colour, colour of happiness, which lasts forever.

The wedding ring is supposed to have its origin from North Africa, which in turn is said to have come from the ancient culture of Egypt. The wedding ring is made to wear on the third finger of the left hand, because it is said, that the vein of the finger is directly connected to the heart, thereby binding the heart of bride and groom with each other. In the ancient times, rings used to be made of reeds, sedges, when there was no metal, but with the fashion of metals coming into use, more of the designer wedding rings came into existence. Rings of gold, silver, with diamonds or stones studded into the rings can be found, to make it more beautiful and attractive.

These days, before finalising the wedding ring, a lot of research is done, because it is a lifetime opportunity and everybody wants to make the best out of it. Also, the business of the rings, has flourished a lot, due to the popularity of the wedding rings, all across the world. There are different designs present in the market for wedding rings; even some designs of the rings are also made according to demands of the customer, i.e. on order. Most of the times, the bride and the groom accompany each other for selecting their wedding rings; this is a culture which has started now- a- days, otherwise earlier the parents of the bride and the groom used to select rings for their prospective son- in- law or daughter- in- law. Many people also attach some superstitious thoughts with the rings; the rings are worshiped before being presented to the prospective bride or groom, to ensure a safe and healthy life. These superstitious factors are practised only in India, in foreign lands, the rings are exchanged in front of the father in the church and after the recitation of the Holy Scriptures, the couple is declared married and is hence blessed by the father and the guests to lead a happy married life.

5 Ways to Use Beach Wedding Favors for Your Summer Wedding

July 31, 2011 by

Article by Aaron Hu

It will be summer time when you wedding takes place. Now do you get married in your hometown or do you want to have a beach wedding? It might even come down to mosquitoes in your drink or sand stuck in your hair. Do you want to tempt Mother Nature with an out door wedding? Do you like the beach wedding favors better than the summer wedding favors? Believe it or not, it might not make as much of a difference as you might think. They have more in common than they do not.

First, there are the colors. Think of the colors of summer. Think of the dark, vibrant hues of the season. Brilliant reds, bright blues, sunny yellows are just some of them. Now think of the colors of the sky over the beach and the colors of beach balls. They are the same. Those are the same colors that you will use in your wedding and again with the wedding favors. That is why both weddings share so many of the favors, like candies and candles and such.

On top of that, think of the weather. Few people go to the beach in the snow and few flowers are in bloom after a hard freeze. Summer days are when the flowers are in bloom and summer days are when the walk on the beach. During outdoor summer weddings the groom tends to wear a suit as a tuxedo is too warm. The relaxed feel of the beach and the heat make a tuxedo a poor choice for a wedding there as well. As with favors again, they share another feature. Neither weddings use chocolate. You would have little chocolate puddles! This is another way they are similar. It’s that same weather that makes you cross your fingers hoping not to get rained on but at either place it will just rain for a few minutes if it does at all.

As similar as they can be, though, they are still two very different types of weddings. Even if they can share so many different wedding favors, they can not really share the decorations. Summer weddings often have garden themes and as such unique decorations and décor. Terra cotta pots and small garden implement often show up, as well as song birds and glass butterflies. Many have a rustic feel with dries vines. None of these decorations are very beach like.

With beaches you really enter a whole new world that has its own hallmarks. Of course sea shells will show, as will sand dollars and small star fish. A nautical theme can be used as well, maybe small light houses with tea candles if it will be dusk or night. Ropes and anchors will not look a bit out of place. You could even do a large brass bell to announce the end of the ceremony. Announce your wedding to the world! There are so many decorating options to this type of wedding as well.

No matter which one you choose, you will now see them as similar as well as different. So many of the wedding favors work for both summer and beach weddings All the bright colors come out and make a festive display.

He should also express his acceptance of the groom as his son-in-law, as well as his happiness over the union.

As with all wedding speeches, the father of the bride wedding speech should be kept relatively short

Planning Your Wedding & Last Minute Considerations To Keep In Mind

July 31, 2011 by

Article by Adrian Hargray

If you are in the last week before your wedding day and have planned everything yourself up to this point, then these last minute pointers will be beneficial as you head into your special day.

The biggest thing that you should be concerned with at this stage in the planning process is the confirmation of small yet very important details. In fact, depending on the size of your wedding, there can be alot of details that needs be confirmed during the last week before your wedding.

Some of these things include your honeymoon, the number of guests for your caterer, and confirming details with the DJ, band, caterer – and even the bridesmaids and groomsmen for the rehearsal dinner.

Also during this time, rest and relaxation is key. Even though confirming last minute details are pivotal, if you have friends and family that can help you out, ask them if they can lend you a hand. This will only reduce your stress while you prepare for the last week before your big day.

So lets begin with some of the things that you need to consider. Do you want a DJ or a live band to perform at your wedding? If you are unsure about your decision, take these factors into consideration. This first thing to look at is price. A DJ almost always costs less than a band.

I mean think about it. A band usually consists of 4-5 people while a DJ is only 1 person. Right there you can see that with a band, the commissions will be split between the band members – thereby justifying the higher price that you have to pay.

The best tip to keep in mind when picking a band or a DJ is to see them play first. You want this to be your special day. So pick the band that is right for you. And guess what? One of the best ways to find the perfect band for you is to check out the band or DJ that perform at a wedding of one of your friends or family members. Makes sense right?

Another approach you could take is to simply search for DJs and bands for hire in your area. Although this can be difficult, a great way to find a band for you is to ask a close friend or relative if they know anyone who is great. If your friend or family member recommended the band or DJ from their wedding, ask them if you could take a look at their wedding video so that you can personally see them yourself.

Lets move on to the caterers for a moment. To be best prepared for your wedding day, be sure to give your caterer a final count for the number of guests during the last week of your wedding. This way, there will be adequate food and supplies for the guests that attend, and that unnecessary money isnt wasted. Also, by doing this, you can avoid the discomfort of not being prepared for additional guests. To best give your caterer an accurate number of guests, be sure to get a confirmed response from all of your invited guests.

And last lets discuss the rehearsal dinner. Its very important during the final week before the wedding to confirm the details of the rehearsal dinner. Your rehearsal dinner will most likely be held the night before your wedding, so its pertinent that all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen are there to rehearse.

Some of the details that need to be confirmed are the number of guests, time, and location – regardless if you and your fiance is hosting the dinner or if a wedding planner is taking on the responsibilities of the event.

During this time also, now would be a good time to write out exactly how you want to thank your parents, friends, and other family members when you make your toast on your wedding day. Even though you want this to be as genuine as possible, its important not to leave out anyone close to heart from your thank you speech – especially if they have gone out of their way to help you during your wedding.

Keep these tips in mind when preparing for your special day.
